Used Batteries

Together with our team of experts we provide all expert services required by the Battery Act:

  • Certificate of Destruction, based on legally required recycling rates
  • Sorting analyses for calculating take-back costs

The common collection systems (GRS) as well as battery producers, who run their own licenced take-back system, are allowed to charge other producers, who do not take part in the system, for the cost of taking back and recycling or disposing of collected batteries. We identify respective third party brands in the battery waste stream for you.

  • Licences for proprietary take-back systems

The Battery Act obliges producers to take back batteries. Producers can either join the common collection system for portable batteries (GRS) or they individually design a take-back system, which must also be licenced. The licence depends on certain conditions that have to be confirmed by an independent expert.

  • Assessment and confirmation of performance control

The efficiency of take-back systems have to be documented annually for the German Environmental Protection Agency (for proprietary systems also for the respective licencing authority). The German EPA requires this documentation to be verified by an independent expert.
